Scandinavian Cello School – “The Musical Farm”

Denmark

Scandinavian Cello School (SCS), founded in 2016, is based at “The Musical Farm” in Stevns – a historic rural property near the UNESCO World Heritage site Stevns Klint. The farm serves as the central hub for SCS’s residencies, courses, and artistic development programmes, bringing together young professional musicians from around the world.

The site combines high-level musical training with a holistic, community-based living environment. Musicians live together on-site during residencies, sharing daily life alongside intensive artistic work, including chamber music coaching, individual lessons, and interdisciplinary projects. The surroundings – fields, coastline, and agricultural activity – form an integral part of the experience, encouraging reflection, focus, and sustainable ways of working.

Facilities include rehearsal spaces, informal performance areas, accommodation, and workshop environments, allowing for flexible and immersive residency formats. The Musical Farm is designed not only as a place for artistic excellence, but also as a space where musicians can develop broader skills, engage with local communities, and explore new models of cultural production.

SCS regularly collaborates with local networks and historical venues, creating a strong connection between international artistic activity and the surrounding community.
