Jan Strumphler qualified as a violinmaker in Newark (UK) in 1987. He then trained with renowned British bow maker Matthew Coltman in London. Upon returning to the Netherlands, he established himself as a bow maker in Vleuten, near Utrecht, about 30 minutes from Amsterdam. From 1997 to 2017, he served as secretary of the Dutch Group of Violin and Bow Makers (NGV), of which he remains a member. He makes new bows and carries out rehairs and repairs. Musicians also turn to him for the restoration and repair of old and antique bows, as well as for his expertise in the field.
