The Foundation for the Conservation of the Historic Country Estate Ockenburgh led a community-driven restoration of a neglected estate in The Hague.
Over 150 volunteers contributed around 80,000 hours to revive the villa, parkland, and gardens, supported by local businesses and institutions.
Founded in 1654, the estate had fallen into disrepair before a decade-long restoration began in 2014 in partnership with local authorities.
Today, the restored villa hosts a restaurant, café, and a social centre supporting people with disabilities, integrating heritage with social impact.
Volunteers continue to play a central role in maintaining the site and organising cultural and community activities.
