PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Breathe, don’t breathe; Guiding through Breath
The string quartet constantly uses breath as a means of connecting with one another in its playing - conscious breath plays a crucial role in the hours before a performance, in the moments before playing, and of course during and afterwards too. By focusing on an element that is as universal and infinitely subtle as breath, inviting a guide from the audience into the quartet, and opening themselves to the possibility of being manipulated by this new force, the quartet hopes to forge a new type of connection between themselves, their guide, each other, and the audience. The repertoire chosen to illustrate this centers around a broader theme of memory and reflection, which the quartet feels offers special meaning in the context of breath and all that breath represents.
